Kiss of Smoke by Amy Pennza

3/5 stars

Kiss of Smoke wasn’t really what I was expecting. I was so excited to read it because I was expecting steamy, action-packed, shifter romance. The book was relatively steamy, but there wasn’t a whole lot of action, so to speak.

Alec and Lachlan talked a lot about how dangerous their world was and how Chloe needed to stick close or she’d be in danger of being killed, but I didn’t feel that danger. There wasn’t any sense of that in the story beyond one scene that was maybe 5 pages in total. I wanted that drama and that danger to come through a little more.

It also felt like a lot of things happened outside the book. Chloe was suddenly this cool new thing other than human, but I never really got any information on that. There was a short explanation, but nothing about how her gift works, what exactly she does with the power she stores, if she actively siphons power and what that does to the other person, etc. I wish that aspect would’ve been explored more, and her training would’ve been included in the book so I had a better idea of what she is and what she can do.

Kiss of Smoke was alright. I’ve read better, and I’ve read worse. It was a quick, easy read….just not super heavy in plot details.
