The Black Fox is the very definition of a tortured hero. He’s just the right amount of righteous, but also sly and scheming as he struggles with his dual nature. This was one of the first forbidden romance books that I’ve read where I actually felt the couple was taboo.
That being said, I do think the story was too short. I felt like a lot of important points were only referenced or skipped over entirely for the sake of expedience. Lolita leveled some very heavy accusations toward the end, but I had little to no reference for them since everything she talked about happened outside of the book. I needed those extra details to bring the plot full circle.
I loved Lolita’s discovery of herself and exactly who she wanted. She really came into her own, and she was so clever! It was a bit unexpected in that she hadn’t displayed that much cleverness as a character, but I liked it for her. It suited her well and rather tidily took care of her and Fox’s problems.
I love a good dark hero, so this series is definitely right up my alley!
