I had a lot of hope for something cool here, but Night of the Mannequins just didn’t deliver for me. The writing style really didn’t jive with me at all, and the “twist” was extremely evident from the outset. The only reason I actually finished this is because it was short.
From the summary, I was expecting like an Auton from Doctor Who situation. That is not what I got. Instead, I got a delusional kid whose name I didn’t know for a decent chunk of the book who constantly gets his friends in trouble. He’s delusional and blames every single bad thing that happens on Manny, their somewhat creepy commandeered mannequin friend.
I love an unreliable narrator, but I was not impressed with this. It had me falling asleep and struggling to keep reading. “Sacrices must be made.” I think I’ll sacrifice this book to my little free library so I don’t have to look at it again.

I really enjoyed ‘Mongrels’ and ‘Mapping the Interior,’ but it doesn’t seem like anybody is really crazy about this book. I still might give it a tree, since like you said, it’s short.

To its credit, it is a pretty quick read. It just didn’t hold up for me outside of that. I’ve not read the two that you mentioned yet, but I’ll look them up!
