Raised by a Killer: Age 4 – Sea Caummisar

3/5 stars

This book is really sad. The things that happen to Deicide and the things that she does because she doesn’t know any better make my heart ache. It’s scary to think about how someone would turn out if they were raised with a vastly different moral compass than what you would expect.

I was a little thrown off that this is billed as an extreme when it wasn’t nearly as extreme as I thought it would be. The author explains in the end, though, that this categorization is meant to be more as a blanket statement to cover some things in the story while Deicide is still so young. The explanation does make a lot of sense, but the categorization did give me expectations that I didn’t think were fully realized.

I’m really interested to see where this series goes and what happens as Deicide gets older. I think this is really going to highlight the Nature vs. Nurture philosophy and the effects of Deicide’s upbringing despite her own nature. I do hope that we learn a little more about her mother at some point, though, as she seems to be the biggest question mark so far.
