His Scream Queen is full of 80s nostalgia and ridiculously over-the-top murder! Part Fear Street and Part Prom Night, Brooklyn weaves a surprisingly sweet tale under the slashy gore of a good old-fashioned demon summoning!

Lucio concocts this grand plan to get back at his ex by turning his class’ ugly duckling, Jamie, into the Belle of the ball so she’ll win Prom Queen. However, nothing could’ve prepared him for a woman on a mission, and his ex will be crowned queen no matter what, even if she has to sacrifice a few people to do so.

Slashers are my favourite type of horror, and this brought me back to the very first time I watched a cheesy 80s horror movie. They always have the silliest motives for a mass murder on top of all the loud obnoxiousness that was high school in the 80s, and I love it! Brooklyn captured the feeling of this subgenre perfectly, and I’ve never been so satisfied with a book in my life.

I loved Lucio’s relationship with Jamie, and seeing how they grew together was so good! For such a bad boy, Lucio sure could be sweet and his “You’ll always be my queen.” line melted me into goo. His character growth over the whole book was so wonderfully written; he just blew me away. And getting to know all the other characters in their group was really fun!

Brooklyn easily just catapulted her way into my favourite authors, and now I absolutely must read through the other books in this series so I can rave about them to everyone I know!
