You’re Going to Die Here is a gore-soaked story about five strangers who are randomly invited to a resort, only to be picked off one by one in incredibly inventive ways.

Miller definitely delivers on the extreme aspect! It doesn’t take long after arrival at the resort for things to descend into utter depravity and madness. A man, dubbed ‘The Stranger’, has contrived extremely painful ways for each of his five chosen to die, and these scenes are described in exacting detail. There was a point where I took a very short break to settle myself from a scene that was personally horrific to me, and that visceral response is a huge credit to Miller as a writer!

However, I didn’t feel like there was enough development in this story for me to be completely into it. It’s not really clear how these five people in particular were chosen for this experience, and the characters didn’t feel fleshed out beyond being people that horrible things happen to. I found myself really wanting that character development so I could get that gut punch when something happened, but it just wasn’t there. I also thought that the beginning got a little repetitive since I read the same letter four times before we started getting to the action.

All in all, if you’re looking for an extreme horror that will make you wonder what in God’s name you just read, this one is your story! If you’re like me and want a bit more meat (pun totally intended) to your gore, you might not get everything out of this that you’re hoping for.
