The Missing Station – C.J. Nellis

3/5 stars

The Missing Station has quite possibly the best opening I’ve ever read! I don’t want to say exactly what it is because I don’t want to spoil it, but it ties into a plot device used that I’ve never read in a book before. It’s so cleverly done, and the revelation at the end of what exactly is going on…..masterful!

However, I was really confused about how much time was passing. At one point, Gideon had a shaved head, but then a couple pages later, he had a full head of hair again. There’s a scene where a weapon gets dropped, but then it’s in the person’s hand again a page later. There are a few other inconsistencies that made it harder for me to follow a timeline through the book.

This missing station itself was pretty cool, but it didn’t seem overly important. You find out fairly quick what it is and why it exists, and it’s dealt with rather early in the book. With the title of the book being The Missing Station, I really thought it would be more central to the book; as it is, it’s a bit of a misnomer. I wanted it to be a little more relevant and more of an issue than what it was.

I will give C.J. credit, though, I’m hooked into the series. I want to know what’s going to happen with Cambden, Stacey, and Gideon. I’m interested in what other legends will be mentioned, and the epilogue definitely hints at some interesting events to come. I’ll have to keep an eye out for the next book so I can find out, and maybe get more clues about Karla!
