4 stars!
This book is absolute bedlam and a blast to read! It was silly, gory, and over-the-top, but a quick read that illustrates the concept: just because we can, doesn’t mean we should.
Arabella Lander is a scientist with L.A.N.D.E.R (she’s not a real creative sort, is she?), and she hates humanity. Despite being one herself, humans are the lowest of the low, and she’s found the perfect solution! Genetic modification! But folks, this isn’t your typical cotton candy grape situation….I’m talking genome splicing with animal DNA to create a virus that causes severe mutation and heightened emotions in infected animals. Humans cannot be afflicted, but they absolutely can be affected!
Did I mention that there’s a tour group going through the forest? And a documentary being filmed? These poor people have no idea what’s coming for them, and it’s a toss-up whether anyone will survive when the agitated, and rather lusty, animals catch up to them.
Dr. Hughes and the capybara made for a very fun interlude to all the chaos and had me snorting every time they came up in the story! This whole thing gets even funnier when you read the Author’s Note at the end and find out that this story was written as a good-natured shot between friends. I love that interaction, and I’m glad Mark included that tidbit in the end! I hope he releases more of Sir Kelvin’s adventures (misadventures?) and maybe more of Shannon, too?
And if Mark needs any more names to horrifically and violently take care of, mine is always available!
