Christmas with the Players – Roxy Monroe

2.5 stars

Christmas with the Players is a quick steamy read featuring an independent woman with commitment issues, two hot hockey twins, and the serious team doctor with even more commitment issues than our FMC.

For this being a hockey romance, there was far less hockey than I was anticipating. It really didn’t have much to do with hockey at all other than the twins being players and Ethan being the team doctor (but also a hospital doctor?). There were also a lot of confusing scenarios in the book. Reagan meets Dr. Blackwood, the twins’ brother, the second time she meets the twins at the hospital in Wisconsin, but then later, she meets Dr. Tanner, who is not related to the twins but is affiliated with them and has no idea who Reagan is. Was Dr. Blackwood a different character, and if so, where did he go?

The timeline of the story was also a little confusing for me. I’m not sure how much time was passing between what was happening, and it seemed like a lot of the events happened off camera. Later, events would be mentioned that had happened but that I didn’t read happening, and it left the overall timeline a bit messy. It also made it hard to really get into the characters and care for them as they felt kind of shallow. I didn’t feel like I got to know them well outside of the overt characteristics the author presented them with.

I’ll give this author another chance because this was a cute story overall, but it’s not super high on my TBR.
