The Middle Reaches Cycle Two: A Rift in Time and Space – L. Andrew Cooper

4 stars

A Rift in Time and Space brings us back to The Middle Reaches with a new cast of characters who run into some very familiar faces.

The Middle Reaches continues to be completely fascinating to read! There’s so much going on there and so many moving pieces, and now we have POLITICS.

Adam and what he was brings a new facet to the world Cooper is building, and another layer of the world to wrap your head around. And I’m slowly coming to the realization that I need to stop getting caught up in my favourite pairings because they don’t tend to work out well 😂

The Carnival of Meat was really something, too! This series hasn’t been extremely heavy in the horror element department, but when those elements come, they come hard (pun very much intended). That entire scene with the carnival was beautifully done, and conjured some rather horrifying imagery in my head!

The problem I’m having, though, is that this world is complicated. I’d absolutely love to see this as an actual TV series, but as a book, it’s a lot to keep track of and understand. The Middle Reaches itself is a bit of a mind bender, and now adding all the vessels and avatars and politicking into the equation almost makes my head spin.

However, I’m enjoying the journey and very curious about where we go from here now that we’ve reached Carcosa!
