Boss’s Red Glare – Lizzie Sparks

I was with this story until about halfway when everything started to derail. I really liked Connor and Maisie as a couple, they’re fake dating situation was really cute at the barbecue, but then things took a very hard turn with a lot of missing or inconsistent details that lost me.

I love a hot, grumpy boss (who doesn’t?) and Connor was presented as an absolute sweetheart under all that bear, but then he randomly turns into a Dom completely out of character for how he was before. And then comes the big V-card reveal by Maisie, who suddenly turns into a pre-teen just hearing about sex for the first time. It made the steamy scenes really awkward for me to read.

The writing style also threw me for a loop. because there were SO. MANY. ADVERBS. I counted 14 pages just on one Kindle page alone, and several of those 14 were the same word. It got to where all I could think of and focus on were all the adverbs.

Boss’s Red Glare had a really interesting concept, but it didn’t work as well for me as I’d hoped. It felt like a huge departure from what I’ve read in Starlight Bay, and I really struggled to get through it.
