Always Darker Inside – Fedowar Press

4 stars

Cursed object anthologies are always so fun because there’s all kinds of ways to make ordinary objects horrible! Every cursed object story I’ve ever read has always been so creative, and it’s quickly turning into one of my favourite type of story to read.

Hitz put together a great group of stories in Always Darker Inside, and I had a lot of fun getting traumatized by things potentially in my general vicinity! Each author took the theme in an entirely different direction, and it kept me engaged in the anthology from start to finish. Now let’s talk favourites!

The Occurrence on Crantor 4. I love space horror and thinking about being surrounded by nothing until suddenly this random thing pops up that you know has to be bad news is terrifying. I don’t know how I’m ever supposed to trust another chair again….

Feeding the Beast. This story happily reminded me a bit of an old Puppet Combo game called Feed Me Billy! And Henrickson and his POS kid got exactly what they had coming to them.

Have a Heart. I’ve never thought about a curse following someone from an organ donation before, so this was really cool! Brings a whole new meaning to a blood curse, for sure!

Honorable mention goes to both Deadphones for the really fun Black Creek Mystic easter eggs (and I just love Custer Falls) and The Obscure Lens for Mari turning around her crap situation and using the cursed object to her advantage.

This was a great anthology, and I hope that Hitz puts out more cursed object books in the future!
