I had such high expectations for The Mummy of Canaan, but I had a really hard time getting into it.

The book could really have used one more pass through editing. I can usually ignore a few things here and there but there were so many things that stood out to me that it took me out of the story. The chacarters’ dialogue was also more stilted and didn’t flow as well as I’d have liked.

The story seemed to end extremely abruptly as well. The choice to end it on a bit of a cliffhanger wasn’t necessarily one I’d have made, but I guess there’s something to be said about a ‘to be continued’ ending.

I don’t think I’ll search for the second one. I was determined to finish The Mummy of Canaan because it gave me a little nostalgia for Brendan Fraser’s movie, but that’s not enough for me to want to seek out anything further.
