If it does not bring great peace to the eternal flower of your soul, discard it!
Noriko has discovered the road to complete self-actualization via Essentialist Self-Organization. Anyone who watches her instructional DVD and follows along with her will reach their true potential buried under all the disorganization and chaos corrupting the eternal flower of their soul.
I enjoyed the idea of this being told through a DVD that someone is watching. It reminded me a lot of Amanda the Adventurer but far more gory. However, the watcher was kind of lost in the shuffle. I forgot about them entirely since they became almost a non-entity, so I would’ve liked a little more focus on them and what they were doing while watching the video.
The gore and body horror was top tier though! Kinion definitely knows how to make someone uncomfortable, and now I think I know what guys are always complaining about when watching someone else get hit in the soft spot. By the time the story was done, I had subconsciously near curled myself into a ball from the horror of what Noriko was doing.
I think this may be the author’s first release, and it’s a very solid showing. They’ve proven they can do gore and shock factor, which is great, but can they tighten up the plot and give readers more outside of that? I’m excited to find out!
