Ward D – Freida McFadden

3 stars

I had pretty high expectations after reading The Locked Door, and I don’t think Ward D quite got there.

Don’t get me wrong, it had some tense moments, for sure! But there was a lot of the plot that I felt was really predictable. Some did catch me off guard, but for the most part I didn’t get the surprise and the shock of the twists that I wanted.

Amy has also got to be the most obnoxiously unlikeable character I’ve read in a thriller to date. She was so freaking gullible that she pretty much just believed whatever anyone told her, flipping sides and opinions in a blink. She also never seemed to get anything done for herself; just constantly running around, screaming, and accomplishing next to nothing beyond being hung up on a breakup for a relationship that she never saw going anywhere anyway.

Spider-Dan stole the show, to be honest. He was a surprisingly charming character, and I appreciated all his little moments with Amy. I liked Will a lot, too, despite his rather questionable choices throughout the book.

Ward D wasn’t a bad read by any stretch. It’s very easy reading, it just didn’t wow me as much as I’d hoped it would.
