Thank you to Encyclopocalypse Publications and Book Sirens for the ARC!
This was my first journey into Paul Kane’s work and my God, what a journey it was! Paul has a gift for keeping you interested and engrossed in the stories he has to tell. Each story was so different in style but fit together so well, and I couldn’t look away.
I don’t even know how to pick a favourite from these. The PI’s Tale with Mickey? Scarred with Jackie? My classic favourite, Sherlock Holmes? There honestly wasn’t a bad story here, and I could make a case for any of them to be my favourite. I do wish, however, that I had read Nailbiters first just so I had the context for a couple of the stories, but I’m definitely going to read it now!
Paul Kane is a unique voice in psychological thriller, and has earned a fan for life. He has such a way with writing diverse characters. Mickey had to be one of my favourites, for sure. The hardened detective trying to find a missing child and poking holes at the classic noir investigator while being one himself. What a fun character to read! Jackie and his non-traditional VW espionage van was also a really interesting divergence from the cliché.
Nailbiters: Hard Bitten is an exciting experience from start to finish; one that you definitely don’t want to miss!
