Zola by D E McCluskey

Vive le fromage!

Man, what a ride. Zola is gross; it’s filthy; it’s vile…..and my God, I loved it! This is the first book that I’ve read that’s made me feel ill, and I’m totally here for it. There were times I caught myself gaping at my phone or hardcore scowling, and I love that this was able to bring that out in me.

That being said, I do think that towards the latter half of the book, the plot got a little too shocky. I think it lost some of its charm in an effort to be as shocking and distressing as possible, but I suppose that’s what extreme horror is for.

I really had to feel for Andrea. She had so much going for her, but her choice of men really twisted her and corrupted everything that she wanted for herself. Gordon, truthfully, was a victim of circumstance and really brings home the nature v. nurture line of thinking. He really never had a chance to be a well-adjusted adult after what happened to him as a child and how Andrea dealt with it. Once I got over my sheer disgust at their actions, I really felt a great deal of pity for both of them.

Mr. McCluskey….hat’s off to you, sir! This was absolutely horrible, and I loved every appalling moment of it!
