I had a hard time with this. It’s billed as a dark romantic thriller, so all the seemingly paranormal parts threw me off balance. I was confused most of the book on if I was supposed to take this in a supernatural way or if it was being played off as something that happens from extreme circumstances. I don’t think this book is in the right category.
The characters were odd. Isleen didn’t seem to care that she had been tortured and on the brink of death unless it suited her to not talk about it. Xander was a mess. He didn’t grow at all during the book unless you count him believing he’s a “pansy” for having emotions and not being a Grade A jerk to women. They both seemed to run hot and cold for each other; wanting to be with each other, then not wanting to, then abruptly changing their mind again. It was enough to make my head spin.
I never really felt the thrill. The danger never felt present until it randomly showed up. There was no build-up to the finale, now foreshadowing to the last major event….nothing. If I’m going to read a thriller, then I want to feel that danger and be riveted to the book. I didn’t get that here. It was lukewarm, at best.
Dangerous Dreams missed the mark. I’m almost afraid to continue on with this series as I feel I may be doomed to disappointment.
