Oh Paige, my sweet summer child. When stealing money from extraordinarily dangerous people who are most likely the mafia, the first thing you do is get as far away from the area as humanly possible. Sticking anywhere close will only get you caught (though I suppose it worked out for her this time).
I really wish I would’ve gotten to know more about Crank, Poe, and Savage and where they came from. I got a little bit of Savage’s backstory, and I loved the bonding moment he had with Paige, but what about Crank and Poe? I’m so curious about all three of them: do they have other family that doesn’t suck? What are their real names? How did they get their nicknames? Where are they from, and what were they doing before the MC?
Stephanie did, however, give me a lot of hard-hitting lines about choosing your family and finding people who matter. Blood doesn’t always have to be thicker than water; sometimes, water is more precious than blood. I loved that aspect of this story and watching Paige find her family after such horrible circumstances.
I don’t know why, but my brain was struggling a little with Crank’s name. In my head, I think I called him every single similar sounding thing I could: Clark, Crack, Clank, C*ck. And the Fabbris family, while certainly dangerous (and definitely oily), read as Febreeze in my mind. It’s definitely a me thing, but it did make it a little difficult for me to completely take certain events seriously when I kept messing up the names.
I can always count on Stephanie for some good quality time spent, and this one was a lot of fun to read! Who doesn’t love a little danger with their romance?!
