This is perhaps one of the best and most important books I’ll read this year.
Invisible is the story of a boy. A boy who is relentlessly bullied by his older peers simply for saying no. A boy who, because everyone around him refuses to help or to speak up, believes he can become invisible. A boy who is finally ready to tell his story.
From the very first page, I knew this book was going to hit me hard and boy, did it. Eloy really knows how to punch you in the gut and make you empathise with his characters, even the ones you might not want to (except the principal and the retiring teacher; they deserve zero empathy).
Bullying is a topic most prefer to sweep under the rug or to excuse away as ‘kids just being kids’ but the reality is so much harsher. This book is so important because it throws a light into the deepest cracks of behaviour school administrators would rather us ignore, and drags it kicking and screaming into the bright light of the attention it needs.
