Rhonda Bobbitt: Horror’s Breakout Star

Rhonda Bobbitt is horror’s newest breakout star with stories in The Hidden Secrets of Nola and Screams from the Ocean Floor! I couldn’t wait to sit down with her and get her thoughts on her experiences in the industry so far.

Q: Who has been your biggest supporter(s) throughout your writing career?

A: Definitely my family and friends.

Q: Where do you draw inspiration from in your work?

A: My first short story was based on true events that I experienced in New Orleans. The second short story was written from the love I have for the ocean. I like to write from things I know or have experienced.

Q: What does it mean to you to be an author?

A: Being an author is like writing another chapter into my own life. I have done many odd jobs throughout my life and writing has always been a dream.

Q: What is your writing process like? Do you listen to certain music, snack, make loads of phone notes when inspiration randomly strikes?

A: I take notes everywhere at the most random of times. I like to watch comfort TV and, for me, that’s watching things like The Walking Dead, NCIS, or any crime shows.

Q: Is there a genre or subgenre that you want to explore that you haven’t yet? Conversely, are there any that you’ll never write?

A: I love horror and thriller, so I believe that will be the genre I stick with. Although, writing dystopian/apocalypse would be fun. Romance is a genre I would not venture into.

Q: What has been the hardest part of your career as an author so far?

A: Time. There never seems to be enough time in the day to write.

Q: What do you consider to be your greatest strength and weakness as an author?

A: Tough question. I would have to say my strength is talking to people about my story and weakness is believing in myself.

Q: Who is on your radar as someone you’d love to work with?

A: That’s an easy question…Angel Van Atta and Megan Stockton.

Q: At some point in our lives, we’ve all heard the negative comments: “You’re not good enough.” “You’ll never make it.” “This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.” “You don’t belong.” How do you move forward when faced with negativity?

A: As a very new author, I’m already seeing these comments, but you have to take them with a grain of salt and learn from them.

Q: What advice would you give to women who are wanting to write, especially if it’s something others might perceive as “outside of the norm”?

A: Follow your heart and do what you love…and nothing is normal these days.

Rhonda’s favourite books that she’s read so far this year include Stuck by Ben Young, “an amazing story of grief and torment”, and Lovely, Dark & Deep by Megan Stockton, “so creepy and thrilling.”

Rhonda is currently working on her next release, a horror/thriller about a cursed house.
