Carved! – Buzz Parcher

3/5 stars

Have you ever carved a pumpkin for Halloween? Pulled out its guts, skinned it and chopped it up for pie, dehydrated its seeds for snacks? Well, the pumpkins remember all of your misdeeds, and they’re out for revenge!

Carved was a fantastically wild read that took me on a ride the entire time I was reading. It felt a little disjointed, though, because there seemed to be two different storylines happening: the pumpkins and the slugs. I didn’t feel that the slug story tied into everything happening with the pumpkins as much as I wish it would have. I almost felt like I was reading two different stories with a few interconnected parts.

If you’ve followed my reviews for any length of time, you’ll know that there’s one word that I absolutely don’t like in a book. It’s a word beginning with “r” that the Spread the Word to End the Word campaigns centered around. I don’t like the word at all, it makes me highly uncomfortable, and it was used several times throughout this book.

This book was an interesting one, for sure. I’ll give the author another chance and read more of his work in the future to see how we get on and if the others are as delightfully gory as this one
