Cody Was Here and Other Stories – D.W. Hitz

3.5/5 stars

I always enjoy picking up a Hitz book, and this one was no different! Custer Falls is a fun place to read about, and I was glad to go back there with some of these stories.

Seeing The Trophy in this collection made me really happy! I first read it in Horrorsmith’s first Fear Forge Anthology, so reading it again here was a great bit of nostalgia for me. I loved it then, and I loved it here as a reread.

I have lost the timeline of the Custer Falls books a tad, though. It seems like most of these are farily linear, but I wonder if any of these events were taking place simultaneously or if they were all within a few days of each other, a few months? It seems like we got some answers as to what’s going on in Custer Falls, and I’m looking forward to further releases and how they continue to shape the storyline.

A couple of these stories, while a good read, confused me as to how they fit back together with the Custer Falls stories. I struggled to make that connection, or maybe there wasn’t one to be had, and I was trying to read more into it than I should have. Either way, it added a layer of confusion while I was reading.

This was a solid group of stories and a good read overall, barring some confusion on my part.
