Ferrus Manus: Gorgon of Medua – David Guymer

For a book about Ferrus Manus, I don’t feel like I learned much about him at all besides a huge festering jealousy for his brothers and a need to outshine them all no matter what the cost may be. Sound familiar? Did I accidentally pick up Perturabo’s primarch book again?

The vast majority of this book was extraordinarily slow. It felt like it took forever to get where it was going, and then the action was over in a blink. It was almost a disappointment that this book ended if only because I wanted to read more about something actually happening. And the way Ferrus treated his brothers’ children simply because his pride was hurt when the Gardinaal used his arrogance against him? Honestly, he deserved a lot more from Guilliman than some harsh looks.

I did enjoy getting to know Akurduana though. He was new to me and a really cool look at how Fulgrim’s sons see war and its consequences. He was a really fun character and it’s extremely unfortunate what happened to him (and Ulan Cicerus).

I really wish this book would have focused more on Ferrus Manus. I didn’t get to learn much about Medusa or his exploits prior to the destruction of Gardinaal so, for me, this book wasn’t super effective. It didn’t give me much of an insight into Ferrus Manus beyond him being a petulant child who doesn’t deserve the might of one of the Emperor of Mankind’s sons 🤷‍♀️
