Miasma – L. Andrew Cooper

Reading Miasma made me think of an original Twilight Zone episode where the military was experimenting on a man to see if he would be able to handle isolation well enough for a solo trip to the moon. The descent into fear and paranoia in both instances was eerie and made me think what my reactions would be in those types of situations.

I do wish that the story was a little longer. I’d have loved to get to know the characters more and see their dynamics changing over more time. None of them tried to interact with the smoke at all or try to get rid of it, and I thought some of the characters were lacking that last step of depth because of that missing human element.

The plot itself was great though! I thought it was really atmospheric and unsettling; Andrew always does a great job of making me look over my shoulder while I’m reading. Or in this case, squint suspiciously at the floor to make sure nothing is creeping across the house.
