Leman Russ: The Great Wolf – Chris Wraight

4 stars

Going from Guilliman to Russ was so interesting with how extremely different the two of them are. Russ is wild and untamed in a way that Guilliman is not and it was a really cool juxtaposition.

I liked the writing style a lot in this one too. Starting post-Heresy then going back to tell the story of the rivalry between the Wolf and the Lion was a really great choice; it gave Russ a lot of depth as a character and really highlighted the effect that the Heresy and everything he was forced to do had on him.

Getting to delve deeper into the ranks of Russ’ Legion was pretty cool! I haven’t had a chance to see much of legion politics yet, so I enjoyed learning more about how all of that worked.

In the end, I really enjoyed Russ as a character! He’s wild and feral, but he added a great element of unpredictability that I’d been lacking.
