No Bones About It was the quirkiest sentient object romance I think I’ve ever read. I’m undecided if that’s a good thing……
Tori, recently divorced and determined to do something for herself, purchases the 12 foot Home Depot Halloween skeleton she always wanted but could never have. Immediately, she finds herself locked in a heated battle with HOA President Lois, leading to some creative maneuvering to keep Mr. Bonejangles in her yard. And here’s where things go very off the rails.
Tori immediately has the hots, and I mean THE HOTS, for her brand new skeleton. He’s very much just plastic at the time, and Tori came off a little creepy sometimes during the story about the way she felt towards it. Once he became sentient, it was marginally less yandere, but I dunno…..it was really hard to relate to Tori as a character when it seemed her entire personality revolved around intense attraction to “injection mold plastic.”
The ending was completely unexpected, so I’ll definitely give Cassandra props for that. I wasn’t thinking things would turn out remotely like that at all, and Lois finally getting her just desserts was really great to see!
If you can suspend your disbelief, this is a fun short read with Halloween fast approaching
